30x30

I accepted the David Suzuki Foundation's 30x30 challenge for May 2016: Spend 30 minutes a day in nature for 30 days.

The goal is simple: to reconnect human beings with nature for the sake of their health and mental well-being. Want to feel healthier, happier and more peaceful? Add a daily dose of nature to your routine! Find out more here: 30x30.davidsuzuki.org. I will be sharing my experiences in nature here on this page via Instagram. Enjoy!

Day 1 of 30x30: Five hours on bike exploring 23km of trails around Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, North Vancouver. Phenomenal area. Gorgeous! Sooo exhilarating! #lovenature

Day 12 of 30x30: My time today was limited to wandering some streets. One thing I love about Vancouver is just how many small community small gardens there are all over the city! #lovenature

Day 13 of 30x30: I took this pup for a nice little walk. Peaceful, relaxing, and there's nothing quite like the company of a dog. #lovenature

Day 14 of 30x30: It's amazing how peaceful things can still be when one of the most beautiful and wonderful people you've know have left this world and you're heartbroken at the thought of life without that person. #lovenature

Day 16 of 30x30: This park is one of the first places I remember visiting when I moved to Vancouver. It remains one of my favourite spots in the city. Definitively. #lovenature

Day 18 of 30x30: I had a short walk to and from a good friend's celebration of life today. She was an amazing, wonderful woman, and I'm going to miss her so much. Today on the walk, so many birds were chirping away, though I couldn't see them... As sad and heartbroken as I felt, I knew that everything would be OK. It will. #lovenature

Day 19 of 30x30: This evening I laid in a park and gazed at the stars. I can't remember the last time I did that. Definitively needs to be done from time to time. #lovenature

Day 22 of 30x30: People walking, talking, laughing. On phones. Walking dogs. Cars. Planes. There's always so much on the go at any given moment. It's refreshing to just lay in a park...and stop. #lovenature

Day 26 of 30x30: Rain. Nature's drink of choice, and the reason Vancouver is full of so many gorgeous flowers, trees and parks. Walking around in the rain can be a magical experience, and provides an opportunity to observe and appreciate nature at its most important, humbling time. Also, people tend to stay inside when it rains, which certainly changes the atmosphere of an evening stroll. So quiet. So peaceful. #lovenature

Day 27 of 30x30: Explored a new park and discovered a really, really awesome tree. Octopus tree! 8 massive trunk-like branches coming out of the trunk! #lovenature

Day 28 of 30x30: Over 12 hours outside today helping friends build a deck. A highlight? Seeing bears in the wild for the first time! If you look really, really closely in this photo you'll see a mama bear staring straight back at you. Her two clubs are close; one is up a tree. Awesome sight! #lovenature #nofilter

Day 29 of 30x30: Two awesome days with this as my view. I'll take that anytime! #lovenature

Day 30 of 30x30: I oddly had no idea that today was Day 30. And so Day 30 was unintentionally like Day 2: Three hours of ultimate frisbee with great people. And it's fitting that I had so much fun and was loving being outside so much that I didn't even think to touch my phone and snap a photo. This one is from Day 2! That's some real #lovenature tada!
